Summary
New Jersey had been a NHSCA and SCIC effort for many years. Finally, the politics lined up with reason and the Attorney General agreed to very modest special legislation but requiring no registration. The New Jersey AG reluctantly accepted this limited law coupled with the NHSCA obtaining clearance that the Insurance Department agreed service contracts are not insurance and would not be regulated under DOBI.
SB 854 was signed by Governor Christie on January 20, 2014 and became effective June 2014.
